Erwin von Arnim is one of the male deuteragonist in "Hachinan tte, Sore wa Nai Deshou!" He is the 5th son of the Arnim Knighthood and is the first retainer to Wendelin von Benno Baumeister. He is also Wend's first and best friend.
Appearance[]
He is about 170 cm tall and with a sharp look with short brown’s hair in crew cut style.[1]
Personality[]
Earnest and trustworthy, Well always can trust on Erwin. He can be a bit stubborn as well as narrow-minded but all in all he's a good person.
He is also very picky when it comes to girls and he can become obsessed with them to the point hat he wants to impress them to win their heart. When finding out that the girl he is so smitten with already has someone else, he get heartbroken to the point that he doesn’t notice women trying to appeal to him at a group marriage interview for Wend’s retainers. However, he has a very strong mentality as it only took him a week before being back to his usual self when normally it would take really long. He is also very ambitious, resolving himself to marry someone even greater than his first love, Karla, after the heartbreak.
Erwin can also be rational, but his rationality can sometimes get self-centered as his answers can hurt/offend some people. Especially when he hardened his heart on his childhood friend (now wife) Anna von Arnim.
Etymology[]
- Erwin is German and means "Respected Friend."
- Von is Dutch and means one of "Noble" birth.
- Arnim is German and means "Whole or Big but also can mean Small Flying Eagle."

Background[]
Erwin is the fifth son of a noble family who owns a village with a populace of 500. His family's financial situation is similar to Wend's and as the family's 5th son he won't inherit their wealth. So to make his living, he plans on using his sword talent (to which he trained his butt off) to pass the scholarship exam and become an adventurer (which worked very good, since he's the top of the class in terms of swords). He then met Wendelin and they hit it off immediately, becoming very good friends in the process.
Plot[]
Erwin is Wend's first friend that Wend makes at the Adventurers Academy as they were sitting next to each other. They will become best friends and form the Dragon Busters with Louise and Ina.
When Wend becomes a baronet he asks Wend to hire him as a retainer and he will eventually becomes Wend head retainer, just below Rodrich. As Wend's peerage grows Erwin's responsibilities and standing will grow along with Wend. [2]

Sword Talent[]
- Immense Prowess - Erwin has a great prowess with the sword, evidenced by the fact that he is the top swordsman in the Adventurer's School. His prowess and potential is so immense that even the Knight Commander Warren, the champion in the Sword Category of the Tournament, was impressed and decided to take him under his wing for training.
- Versatile Swordsman - Since first training with his wife (then fiancee) Haruka, Erwin discovers that he has much higher talent for Japanese Swordsmanship (specifically 剣術 - Kenjutsu) than Traditional Swordsmanship, but his technique is not sharp enough for 抜刀術- Battōjutsu and his reflexes are not fast enough for 居合術)- Iaijutsu just yet. This is further evidenced that he can wield a magic katana while having normal human mana with ease, showing his diversity in his swordsmanship.

- All of Wend's wives pick on Erwin, mainly questioning his intelligence.
- Before meeting his wife, he frequented whore houses with Brantark.
- He worried that if he had a falling out with his brothers they would try to kill him to get his reward from the ancient ruins. This is one reason he gave it all to Wend.
- Although Wends wives make fun of his intelligence, or lack there of, at times he makes sound arguments.
- In the Novel he is from a retainer family in the Novel, but the Manga has him from a noble family.
- He has the support of one of his family's retainers who wants him to succeed the head of the household due to his superior sword skills.[3]
- Wends wives force him to accept Lea and Anna as his wives due to his hesitation. [4]
- In the Anime they have Erwin form a group with Louise and Ina in pursuit of Wend , but in the Novel he was sitting next to Wend and they formed a group together from the start.
